State report: Weld County sales taxes fall in second quarter

Weld County consumers are living proof of the recession, as sales taxes collected for cars, building materials and restaurants contracted in the second quarter of the year.

Statewide, all sales tax categories dropped for each of the state's largest 14 counties, with the exception of Pueblo County's restaurant sales, which increased at 1.3 percent.

Sales taxes for the quarter in Weld dipped the least in restaurant sales, which have been holding pretty steady. For the second quarter - April through June - Weld's restaurant taxes sunk the least of the three categories at 4.4 percent from the same time last year. That compares with Larimer County, where sales taxes at restaurants dropped the least in the state at 0.7 percent.

In Greeley, the most recent sales tax numbers - collected from August sales - showed an increase in collections of 1.99 percent. At the same time, Fort Collins sales taxes from restaurants dipped 3.5 percent.
